iPhone OS 4.0 supports note syncing over IMAP

I've been playing with the beta of iPhone OS 4.0 and can confirm that it supports note syncing over IMAP. Just add a normal IMAP account, such as GMail, and you'll get the option (within settings => Mail => Account) to sync notes. Once this is set up, an extra folder is created within your IMAP folders called notes, which is kept in sync with your iPhone.

Within the Notes app, A new root-level screen is added to the Notes application to allow you to view either your sync'd notes, your local iPhone notes, or both combined:

Unfortunately, note syncing over an Exchange account isn't yet supported, so if you have a GMail account and want to sync:

- Mail
- Calendar
- Contacts and
- Notes

....you'll need to add two Google accounts; an exchange one as described here for your calendar, contacts and mail, and then an IMAP one just for your note sync. The settings screen will look a little like this when correctly configured:

Hope this helps

Carlos
